Waterborne products

Waterborne products

Today, the civil engineering and coatings industries are without any doubt convinced of the advantages of using waterborne epoxy systems: these systems are environment‑friendly, they offer enhanced work comfort (less smell) and reduced toxicity for the applicators working in closed areas. They are not flammable, they allow for easy cleaning of the application tools with water. These systems also do exhibit excellent adhesion on concrete and on humid surfaces, and they can even be used on wet concrete.

However, formulators are still reluctant to switch to waterborne epoxy binders because they still encounter problems using those:

waterborne systems tend to cure slowly; their application thickness is often limited; the final gloss of cured coatings is also known to be poor, because of an imperfect film formation process. Finally, the protective efficiency of aqueous epoxy formulations, in particular on metal, is regularly questioned and does not always attain the performances achieved by their non-aqueous counterparts.

In QR-Polymers, we believe we can offer waterborne curing agents which address these concerns. Through R&D and close cooperation with our customers, we are continuously improving and expanding our product range to meet today and tomorrow market requirements.

Special resin blends for construction

E-Pos 516 is a resin diluted with the glycidyl ester of neodecanoic acid as monofunctional reactive diluent. It ensures good pigment and substrate wetting, good flow and can be formulated in a variety of applications such as self-leveling floorings, trowellable floorings, mortars or coatings for concrete.

E-Pos 513 is a low viscosity epoxy resin useful when some extra chemical resistance is required. In self-levelling floorings, its low viscosity will ensure easy processing and good flow. In mortars, E‑Pos 513 enables high filler loadings and good substrate wetting. Thanks to its excellent chemical resistance, E-Pos 513 is ideal for the formulation of floorings for industrial environments or laboratories. E‑Pos 513 is crystallisation-resistant.

We have also developed systems with a high renewable (bio)carbon content which are suitable for the production of epoxy floorings and ambient cure two pack epoxy adhesives.

These high renewable content systems are certified under the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) BioPreferred® program and carry the USDA BioPreferred® label.

The systems are suitable for all types of floorings such as self-leveling or trowelable as well as fast cure two pack adhesives. They are water white and have a superior colour stability than conventional epoxy systems for floorings.

BLUE FIN for surfboards

BLUE FIN for surfboards

Blue FinBLUE FIN systems have been specifically developed for the production of EPS core epoxy surfboards. They are fast curing, low viscosity, water white and hard wearing when cured. Both the BLUE FIN 20 and BLUE FIN 25 systems have accredited minimum biocarbon contents and comply with the requirements of Sustainable Surf .

 

There are two BLUE FIN systems, BLUE FIN 20 and BLUE FIN 25. The BLUE FIN 20 system has a guaranteed minimum biocarbon content of 20% when cured. Surfboards produced using the BLUE FIN 20 or BLUE FIN 25 system automatically qualify to carry the Sustainable Surf ECOBOARD LEVEL ONE label.

The BLUE FIN 25 system has a guaranteed minimum 25% biocarbon content when cured. It is certified by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the material is labelled as such. Surfboards produced using BLUE FIN 25, which also comply with minimum plant based or recycled content in the core, qualify to carry the Sustainable Surf ECOBOARD GOLD LEVEL label.

Both BLUE FIN 20 and 25 are two component systems, with a 2:1 by volume mix ratio with the hardener. There are two hardeners with different reactivities (fast and regular) which can be mixed in any proportion to tune the reactivity to the customers’ requirement. BLUE FIN FAST is commonly used alone unless ambient temperature is above 30°C. The minimum biocarbon content for both BLUE FIN 20 and 25 systems is unaffected by the choice of fast or regular cure speed hardener.

Special resins for composite applications

Special resins for composite applications

RD-0187 is an epoxy resin which has been specifically developed for composite applications, in particular for vacuum resin infusion and injection processes. Its low viscosity ensures a good infiltration and wetting of the fibre fabrics. When cured with an adequate curing agent, such as Q-RIT 120, RD-0187 provides excellent temperature and chemical resistance to the finished cured product. RD-0187 is crystallisation-resistant.

E-Pos 573 is an epoxy resin developed for use in fibre reinforced laminates, for example to make bonded joints for pipes or for any hand lay-up application. E-Pos 573 is based on bisphenol A and a multifunctional diluent which ensures the formation of a tight, resistant cured network.

We have also developed systems with a high renewable (bio) carbon content which are suitable for the production of environmentally friendly fibre reinforced laminates. The systems are suitable for wet lay-up and various types of injection moulding. The systems are designed to cure at ambient temperature, but heat can also be used to accelerate cure rate, increase production efficiency and reach optimal final properties.

水性环氧固化剂系列

毫无疑问当今水性环氧体系在土木工程和涂料领域的应用具有明显的优势。水性体系它环保,它提供工作的舒适度(如低气味)以及减少封闭环境下对操作者的毒性危害。它们不易燃,它们用水即可轻松清洗操作设备。 水性体系在混凝土和潮湿表面表现出良好的粘接性,另外它们也能用于湿润的混凝土。

然而,操作者不愿意做“油转水”的切换是因为他们会碰到诸多问题,如:水性系统通常固化比较慢;它们应用的膜厚通常有限;固化后涂料由于不完全的成膜过程通常光泽较差;最后水性环氧体系的防腐效果,特别是在金属上的防腐效果常常被质疑,通常无法达到溶剂型体系的防腐效果。

 

可是在日益严峻的环境保护压力下,国家近年出台多个环保政策禁止溶剂型涂料的使用。

  • 2015年2月1日国家对VOC含量超过420克/升(含)的涂料征收4%消费税政策。
  • 国务院办公厅发布《贯彻实施质量发展纲要2016年行动计划》,明确提出开展含挥发性有机物涂料质量标准提升行动。
  • 2016年3月2日国家发改委和商务部正式发布《市场准入负面清单草案(试点版)》,涉及多个涂料板块被禁限的产品项目。

 

在禁止溶剂型涂料使用的同时,国家今年密集出台各类政策鼓励和推广应用水性环保涂料:

  • 2016年4月26日,发改委、工信部等24部门联合印发《关于促进消费带动转型升级的行动方案》,提出推广使用水性涂料等环保装修材料;
  • 2016年5月18日,国务院办公厅发布《关于促进建材工业稳增长调结构增效益的指导意见》,指出要加快推广应用水性涂料产品;
  • 2016年10月11日,工信部发布《建材工业发展规划(2016-2020年)》,提出推广应用水性、粉末和高固体分等低挥发性有机物(VOCs)的涂料,发展无污染、健康环保的装饰装修材料;
  • 2016年10月14日,工信部发布《石化和化学工业发展规划(2016-2020年)》,提出加强环保型涂料产品的研发和推广应用,综合整治挥发性有机物(VOCs);
  • 2016年11月13日,工业和信息化部正式发布《国家鼓励的有毒有害原料(产品)替代品目录(2016年版)》《目录》,涉及大量的水性涂料替代溶剂型涂料产品项目。
